Altona Train Station

This study examines the potential of the current Altona train station in Hamburg. Through the planned relocation of the train services new possibilities emerge to reorganize and structure the internal and external areas of the location. A new “High-Line” connects the project with the adjacent new city district “Neue Mitte Altona” and is a reminiscence of the former rail tracks. Underneath this a market-hall is created that interweaves the new North-South with the current East-West axies. A new cloudhanger spans the structure and enables panoramic views into the cityscape. Retail areas are complemented with offices and residential units. A second study converts the cloudhanger into a tower that creates a new urban landmark.
