Florenc21 – B02
As a central component in the transformation of a long-derelict area in the heart of Prague, the residential block is making a significant contribution to the development of a lively, diverse urban quarter.
Embedded in a historic urban fabric with a clear perimeter block structure, the design responds sensitively to its context and combines it with contemporary architectural and engineering approaches. The planning does not view the project as an isolated object, but as part of the overarching urban structure. The aim is to create architecture that blends harmoniously into its surroundings while responding to the changing needs of the city and its residents.
The materials and design draw on local building traditions: regional sandstone and warm-toned screeds and stones characterise the appearance. Historical motifs are reinterpreted and translated into a contemporary design language. Differentiated volumetric forms create a clear identity and a clearly legible and orienting cityscape.
The design focuses on people. Communal spaces on the roofs, in green courtyards and on the ground floor promote social interaction and offer varying degrees of public space and retreat. Lively ground floor areas and a carefully designed roof landscape – the ‘fifth façade’ – strengthen the public space, improve the microclimate and promote biodiversity.
Florenc21 – Block 02 is an example of sustainable, integrative and future-oriented urban renewal.
